The Vice President will also meet members of the Indian community in Azerbaijan at a reception organized by Indian embassy on Oct 25.
PM Modi is giving a miss to the Summit for the second time. He is also the first Indian PM to Skip the NAM Summit since its formation in 1961, except for caretaker PM Charan Singh who missed it in 1979.
The 120 member nations bloc was started with 23 member nations at the peak of the cold war era. It came into existence through initiatives of former Indian PM Nehru and Yugoslavian President Josip Broz Tito. Its basic idea was to maintain neutrality at that time.
