Nagaur gangrape: One accused held, two absconding

Days after a Dalit woman in Rajasthan's Nagaur was gang-raped and a bottle was inserted in her private parts, police today detained one of the accused involved in the crime. Two more accused are absconding and police are trying to nab them.

Nagaur: Rajasthan police on Tuesday held a person for allegedly raping a 25-year-old Dalit woman in Nagaur district, officials said. Police said that two more accused are on the run and efforts are on to nab them.

Additional SP Sanjay Gupta, additional district collector and circle house officer went to the house of the victim and recorded her statement.

On January 19, the victim, who went to the fields in the morning, was allegedly gang-raped by three men and accused reportedly inserted a bottle in her private parts. The accused also threatened the family members of the victim to kill them if they reported the crime.

A case was registered by the family members five days after the incident. According to reports, a local police officer who was under transfer hadn’t acted on their initial complaint. The complaint was registered only after the intervention of senior officials.

Additional SP Sanjay Gupta told ETV Bharat, "We have filed a case against three people for gang-raping a dalit woman. The accused are natives of a nearby village. Medical examination and questioning of the victim has been done. We have detained one accused and interrogation is going on. We are investigating the case from all angles."

Opposition party BJP has slammed Congress over the rise in crime against women in the state. State BJP chief Satish Poonia has hit out at Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot saying that he is responsible for the rise in crime against women.

Former Chief Minister Vasundra Raje tweeted, "The number of crime against women in Rajasthan has surpassed all limits under Congress regime."
