New Delhi:A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of uncontrolled population growth in his Independence Day speech, Muslim Rashtriya Manch, believed to be affiliated to the RSS, on Friday called for grassroots-level work in the regard.
Jilani said malnutrition is prevalent in areas with excessive population Speaking to ETV Bharat, MRM leader and spokesperson Yasir Jilani welcomed the Prime Minister's take on the issue and said, "PM Modi's words should be publicised and taken to the very grassroots. The government and people should work together to control our population."
"Malnutrition is prevalent only in areas with an excessive population. The case is the same when it comes to health and education issues," he added.
Voicing concern over 'population explosion', the prime minister had said it leads to many difficulties and there was a need for the Centre as well as state governments to launch schemes to tackle it.
Keeping one's families small is an act of patriotism and those who do so deserve our respect and need to be felicitated, he said.
"Population explosion has been occurring at an unrestrained pace. This population explosion is creating innumerable challenges for us and the coming generations," the prime minister added.
