Balghat: Mortal remains of a woman was found in a dense forest under mysterious circumstances in Badgaon village under Paraswada police station limits in Balaghat district. The woman was found half burnt and naked. Circumstantial evidence raises suspicion of gang rape and murder as blood-stained stones, torn clothes were found at a distance of two km from a rough road in Balghat.

Sarpanch of the Grama Panchayath brought the incident into the police's notice. Upon receiving information, Parswada subdivisional officer Apoorva Bhalavi, and city inspector Ram Singh Rathore reached the spot immediately and inspected the place.

Floral design on her palm, bangles, anklets indicated that the woman was likely a newlywed. The dead body seemed three to four days old.

Parswada police have taken her body into possession and initiated investigation. Evidence pointed out that she was forced to the path, raped and murdered. As there were no reports of anyone's absence in Paraswara police station, it is suspected that the woman belonged to some other area.

It should also be noted that Madhya Pradesh reported the highest number of rape cases registered in the country for the third consecutive year in 2018. As per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report released on January 6, the state accounted for a little over 16 per cent of the country's total 33,356 rape cases registered in 2018.
