Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh):In a bid to avenge the death of its calf, which was electrocuted after it accidentally brushed against an uninsulated cable of a transformer, an anguished mother elephant struck the same electric pole and uprooted it with all her might on Monday in Gobbilla Kotur village of Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district.

The mother pachyderm, however, escaped unhurt as the forest officials of Palamaner range stopped power supply to the transformer “which killed the calf”, and also a few other transformers in the adjoining fields, expecting that the angry mother would strike back at it with vengeance.

A two-year-old male calf was electrocuted to death after coming in contact with a transformer at an agricultural field in Gobbilla Kotur village bordering the Koundinya wildlife sanctuary on Sunday. The dead calf was buried by the villagers and the forest officials in the same village.

Around 3 am on Monday, the mother elephant, reportedly, entered the same field and hit the transformer snapping the “lifeless” cables.

Onlookers confirmed that the angry mother elephant also tried to uproot a couple of other transformers in the adjoining fields, but abandoned the move later.
