Modi killing Indian democracy: Congress

Congress General secretary Harish Rawat has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of indulging in "unfair politics". The Congress leader demanded Modi must come clean on controversial statement by US President Donald Trump on Kashmir issue.

New Delhi: Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of "killing democracy in India", Congress General secretary Harish Rawat on Wednesday expressed appehension that the BJP-led government at the Centre, after falling the Con-JD(S) alliance government in Karnataka, may induldge in horse-trading in Madhya Pradesh and other states where BJP and allies are not in power.

Talking to ETV Bharat in the national capital, the Congress leader charged Modi for indulging in "unfair politics", citing examples of Uttarakhand, Mizoram, Goa and Karnataka.

Touching upon controversial statement by US President Donald Trump on Kashmir, wherein he said that Modi had asked for mediation on the issue, the Congress leader said the prime minister must come clean on it.

"Only Trump and Modi would know what transpired between them in that meeting in Japan recently, and Modi must make a statement on the issue in Parliment," he demanded.

The matter is very serious and the Congress would not let the issue die down without proper clarification from the prime minister, adding that Shimla agreement of 1972 makes it clear that no third party would be involved in resolving the issue.
