Wrong narrative being spread about e-cigarette. It's harming youth: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said e-cigarettes were banned to prevent the youth from falling into the new way of intoxication.

Talking about harmful effects of e-cigarettes, he said: "We all know that addiction to tobacco is extremely harmful for health and it becomes very difficult to get out of this addiction. People who consume tobacco are vulnerable to diseases like cancer, diabetes, blood pressure etc."

He also said there are several misconceptions being spread about use of e cigarettes, including the one which says that it is not harmful for health.

"There is very little awareness among people about e-cigarettes. They are completely unaware of its danger and for this reason sometimes e-cigarettes find their way into homes out of curiosity, "he further added.

Urging people to shun tobacco, the prime minister warned that e cigarettes, which are used as a "fashion statement", are a new way of getting addicted to nicotine.

Mann Ki Baat UPDATES: 'Special guest' Lata Mangeshkar joins PM Modi

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the latest edition of the Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast on Sunday. 

Addressing the nation, PM Modi said, "Here would hardly be anyone who does not show utmost regard for Lata Mangeshkar ji. She is elder to most of us and has been witness to different eras in the country. We address her as 'didi'. She turns 90 today."

"I have a very special guest joining us today during #MannKiBaat. Do tune in at 11 am," Modi had tweeted earlier.
