Mandla murder case: Four cops suspended on negligence in duty

After six members of the same family were brutally murdered in a land dispute by their own relatives, four policemen have been suspended on the charge of negligence. The accused had attacked cops when they had gone to arrest them. One of the accused was beaten to death by the locals while one of them was apprehended by the cops.

Mandla (Madhya Pradesh): Four policemen, including in charge of Maneri police post, have been suspended following the killing of six persons in a land dispute case in Madhya Pradesh's Mandla district, a senior police officer said on Friday.

Mandla Superintendent of Police Deepak Shukla told reporters that the officials were suspended on the charge of negligence.

On Wednesday, Rajjar Soni's relatives Hari and Santosh Soni, who lived near his house in Bijadandi Thane village, attacked his family with sharp-edged weapons, killing six of them. The incident occurred at Maneri village under Bijadandi Police Station area, about 100-kms from the district headquarters.

Mandla’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vikram Singh Kushwaha had said, “It is confirmed that six persons have died so far. All the deceased are members of a family.”

One of the attackers was beaten to death by a mob while the other was shot in the leg by the police.

The accused brothers were arrested with great difficulty as it appears, they are not mentally sound and police had to open fire when they went to arrest them to control the situation, Kushwaha said.

“We had to fire at them as they attacked the police team. Cops fired in self-defence following which one of them was caught immediately,” Kushwaha said.

The accused were armed with an axe, sword and chilli powder. They attacked the police team that had gone to arrest them. “One of them suffered bullet injuries in his leg in the incident,” the ASP said, adding that both the accused are admitted in a hospital.(With agency inputs)
