Bengaluru (Karnataka): A 42-year-old man allegedly killed his wife in Bengaluru and then flew to his in-laws in Kolkata where he shot his mother-in-law dead before shooting himself to death on Monday.

The man, identified as Amit Agarwal, was a Chartered Accountant by profession.

On Monday, Agarwal went to his in-law’s flat in an upscale apartment in Phoolbagan area and had a heated argument with his father-in-law Subhash Dhandania. When his mother-in-law Lalita intervened, Agarwal shot her from a close range.

A frightened Dhandania rushed out of the flat and locked the door from outside and sought help from a neighbour. The police were soon informed.

Upon arrival, the police found both the elderly woman and Agarwal lying dead inside the apartment. They also recovered a suicide note in which Agarwal confessed to having killed his wife in their Bengaluru home before travelling to Kolkata.

Amit Agarwal had been married to Shilpi Dhandhania for several years.

They had a 10-year-old child but were estranged and on the verge of a divorce, according to the police.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
