Agra: Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested a man for posing as Union Minister Amit Shah's nephew and reportedly trying to dupe a BJP MLA Yogendra Upadhyaya.
The accused, identified as Natwarlal, had introduced himself as Shah's nephew Viraj Saha and was planning to dupe a number of BJP leaders, police said. It is also learnt that the accused had earlier duped Naresh Sharma, an aide of BJP MLA Dr Mohan Yadav.
According to reports, the accused had dialled Agra MLA, Mayor Naveen Jain and other party leaders to seek a meeting and later cheat them.
Yogendra Upadhyaya said that the accused Viraj Saha had been calling him for the past several days, saying that he wanted to go to some hotel in Agra. Yesterday, the accused again called up Upadhayaya when he was in Agra.
The BJP leader said, "I called my son Vatsalaya to help him as the accused was seeking help to roam around. He went to the shop and made a purchase of about Rs 40,000 and then asked my son to make the payment. When my son informed me about this strange incident, I got suspicious and informed the police."
