New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee is likely to meet Home Minister Amit Shah in Odisha on Friday.

The two leaders are likely to face each other on the side line of the 24th Eastern Zonal Council meeting at Bhubaneswar.

This meeting assumes significance against the backdrop of recent communal violence that took place in Delhi over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Mamata Banerjee, who has opposed to the idea of CAA-NPR-NRC, has already met Shah in Delhi in September last and raised her protest over NRC and CAA.

Sources in TMC said that Mamata is likely to raise the issue of CAA and NPR again with Shah in the Bhubaneswar meeting on Friday.

The Eastern Zonal Council meeting, however, will be chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah.

The meeting will deliberate upon several important issues concerning states that includes state water issues, power transmission lines, royalty on and operationalization of coals mines, land and forest clearance of rail projects, investigation of heinous offences, cattle smuggling across countries borders among others.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is the vice chairman of the Eastern Zonal Council.

Chief Ministers of Bihar Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren will also be present in the day long meeting.

The Council takes up issues involving Centre and States, and among Member States falling in the zone and thus provide a forum for resolving disputes and distance between them.
