Seven more people succumbed to COVID-19 in Telangana, pushing the death toll to 99 even as 129 fresh cases were reported on Wednesday thereby taking the tally of positive cases in the state to 3,020.

Of the 129 cases, 127 were from different parts of the state and two were migrants, a government bulletin said.

The Delhi government on Wednesday reduced the 14 daysmandatory home quarantine period to seven days for all asymptomatic travellers arriving in the national capital.

In an order, the city government also instructed all district magistrates to keep a watch on the implementation of the norm.

West Bengal records 10 more COVID-19 fatalities, 340 new cases of infection

West Bengal registered 10 more deaths due to COVID-19 on Wednesday, taking their number to 273 as 340 new cases of the infection surfaced in the state, officials said here.

With this, the total number of confirmed cases of the disease in the state rises to 6,508, a state health bulletin said.

Of the fresh fatalities, seven were reported from Kolkata and one death each was reported from South 24 Parganas, Howrah and Darjeeling districts.

Uttarakhand records 42 fresh COVID-19 cases; tally 1,085

As many as 42 fresh coronavirus cases were reported in Uttarakhand on Wednesday, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state to 1,085.  

A state health department bulletin said the maximum 15 cases were reported from Nainital district, Dehradun and Haridwar reported nine each, Chamoli recorded six cases and Pauri, Udham Singh Nagar and Pithoragarh reported one case each. Most of the the new cases have a travel history to Maharashtra and Delhi.

Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday recorded 139 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of those infected with the disease to 2,857, officials said.

The new cases include 26 pregnant women, they said. "139 new positive cases of coronavirus were detected in the union territory on Wednesday," the officials said.

Haryana suffers highest single-day spike at 302 cases; 132 from Gurgaon alone

Haryana on Wednesday suffered the highest single-day spike in coronavirus infections with 302 testing positive for it in the state and 229 in the state's three worst-hit districts -- Gurgaon, Faridabad and Sonipat.

Gurgaon alone detected 132 COVID cases, the state's daily health bulletin revealed. A day earlier, Haryana had reported 296 cases.

Maharashtra on Wednesday reported 122 COVID-19 deaths, the highest single-day spike so far, taking the fatality count to 2,587 while the cases mounted by 2,560 to 74,860, Health department said.

A total of 996 patients were discharged from hospitals in the day, taking the tally of the recovered cases to 32,329 so far, a statement said.

The number of active cases in the state now stands at 39,935, it said, adding that a total of 4,97,276 samples have been tested.

Chennai's tally crosses 17 k mark, TN count touches 25,872

Tamil Nadu on Wednesday reported 1,286 fresh coronavirus cases and 11 deaths, while for the first time 1,000 plus people tested positive in a single day in Chennai, taking the state's infection count to 25,872.

Of the 1,286 new cases, 15 were returness from abroad and 27 from other states and the state capital Chennai alone accounted for 1,012 of the fresh infections, a health department bulletin said.

Nine fresh COVID-19 positive cases in Ladakh, tally reaches 90

Nine more persons tested positive for coronavirus in Ladakh, taking the total number of cases in the union territory to 90, officials said on Wednesday. All the new positive cases -- seven in Kargil and two in Leh districts -- have been shifted to an isolation ward from quarantine facilities and the contract tracing is under progress, health department officials said. 

They said one COVID-19 patient from Leh district was discharged from Mahabodhi hospital on Tuesday after the second negative report of the patient was received by the health department, raising the number of those who were cured of the disease to 48.

RT-PCR test for COVID-19 crosses 40 lakh-mark

The number of test for detection of COVID-19 crossed the 40 lakh-mark on Wednesday morning, the Union Health Ministry said as the coronavirus cases shot up to over 2 lakh in the country.

A total of 41,03,233 samples have been tested as of 9 AM on June 3, with1,37,158 tests being conducted in the last 24 hours since 9 AM on Tuesday, officials of the Indian Council of Medical Research said.

The testing capacity has been increased to 1.4 lakh per day through 480 government and 208 private laboratories (total 688 laboratories). The capacity is being further raised to two lakh samples per day, sources said.

The death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 5,815 and the number of cases climbed to 2,07,615 in the country, registering an increase of 217 deaths and a record single-day spike of8,909 cases till Wednesday 8 AM,according to the Union Health Ministry.

The country registered over 8,000 new cases for the fourth day in a row. Presently,there are 1,01,497 active cases of coronavirus and all are under active medical supervision, the ministry said.

82 fresh cases in Kerala, COVID-19 tally touches 1,494

Kerala continued to witness a surge in COVID-19 cases with 82 people, including a doctor and four health workers, testing positive for the virus, taking the infection count to 1,494, while over 1.6 lakh people are under observation.

In the highest single day spike, 86 cases were reported in Kerala yesterday. Of the new cases, 53 people had come from abroad and 19 from other states, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters after a COVID-19 evaluation meeting. Vijayan said 832 people are presently under treatment.

official said. The swab reports of 47 suspected patients from the district came out positive on Wednesday, the official said.

Of the 1,696 COVID-19 cases reported in the district so far, 1,085 patients have recovered from the infection and 85 have succumbed to it, he said.

Coronavirus: Uttarakhand extends quarantine period for people returning from worst-hit 75 cities

In a bid to tackle the rise in coronavirus numbers, the Uttarakhand authorities on Wednesday extended the quarantine period to 21 days for those returning from the country's 75 worst-hit cities.

According to an order issued by Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh, people returning from the 75 highly infected cities will be quarantined at an institutional facility for a week. Thereafter, they will be home quarantined for 14 days. The order applies to everyone coming from these cities regardless ofthe mode of transportation they use. However, people coming from other cities will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine as earlier, the order said. People can either avail government facilities for free or institutional facilities at hotels on payment basis, it said.

Seven policemen were placed under quarantine after a man who was arrested here earlier this week on charges of domestic violence tested positive for COVID-19, officials said on Wednesday.

The policemen had taken into custody a man from Kalai-andar in Rainawari area of the city after his wife had registered a case of domestic violence against him in Nowhatta police station, the officials said.

A 55-year-old woman from Chhattisgarh's Durg district, tested positive for COVID-19 post her death at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences
(Raipur), a health official said on Wednesday. This is the second COVID-19 death in the state, which has recorded 572 cases so far.

The deceased, a native of Charoda town, was referred to AIIMS from Ramkrishna Care Hospital here on Tuesday afternoon, as she was suspected to have been infected by coronavirus, a public relations officer from AIIMS said.

1.37 lakh samples tested for COVID-19 in last 24 hours: ICMR

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Wednesday said that a total 1,37,158 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of tests have reached 41,03,233 in the country.

So far, a total 681 laboratories across the country have been granted permission to conduct the test for the infection including 476 government laboratories and 205 private laboratories.

According to the Union Health Ministry, India registered its highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases today with 8,909 new infections reported in the last 24 hours, taking the country's tally to 2,07,615 while the death toll rose to 5,815.

The number of active COVID-19 cases stood to 1,01,497 while 1,00,303 people have cured/discharged/migrated.

Toddler tests positive, shifted to COVID hospital along with mother

A woman was shifted to a COVID hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district after her one-year-old daughter tested positive for the novel coronavirus, officials said on Wednesday.

Six migrant workers and the girl who came from Tamil Nadu tested positive for COVID-19, following which they were shifted to the Muzaffarnagar Medical College on Tuesday. The girl's mother was also shifted to the hospital despite not testing positive, the official said.

As many as 48 fresh COVID-19 cases have been reported in Assam, taking the state's tally to 1,561 on Wednesday, state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Highest single-day spike of 396 COVID-19 cases in Bengal; 10 more die of disease

West Bengal registered the highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases on Tuesday with 396 people testing positive for the disease in the last 24 hours, the state health department said.

Ten persons died due to the disease since Monday evening, raising the death toll in the state to 263, it said.

Eight deaths were reported from Kolkata and one each from Birbhum and North 24 Parganas districts.

The tally of coronavirus cases rose to 5,772 in the state, while the number of active cases stood at 3,423, the department said in its daily bulletin.

District judge of Rohini court tests positive for COVID-19

The district judge of the Rohini District Courts complex here tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, the president of the bar association said.

District Judge R P Pandey's wife was found to be COVID-19 positive on Sunday, advocate Mahavir Sharma, the president of the Rohini District Court Bar Association, said.

Both are in quarantine and undergoing treatment at home, he added.

The judge had last visited the courts complex on Saturday, Sharma said.

New Delhi: Eight nurses have tested positive for COVID-19 at a private hospital here, over a week after a nursing staff member of the facility died of the infection, officials said on Tuesday.

The employee of Kalra Hospital had died of COVID-19 on May 24 at the Safdarjung Hospital.

"Around eight nurses of our hospital had tested positive a few days ago. Three of them are kept in an isolation facility at our hospital only and the rest are asymptomatic. So, as per guidelines they have been told to be home-quarantined," said Dr R N Kalra, owner of the hospital.

The 112-bed private facility is located in Kirti Nagar in west Delhi.

"We also have a unit in Dwarka with 50 beds. We have reserved 34 beds there for COVID patients," he said.
