COVID-19 death toll mounts to 1,536 in West Bengal with 46 more fatalities

West Bengal reported 46 COVID-19 fatalities on Thursday, the highest number of single-day deaths so far, pushing the toll to 1,536, the health department said.
The state's caseload shot up to 67,692 with a record 2,434 fresh cases, it said in a bulletin. The number of active cases stood at 19,900. Since Wednesday, 2,140 patients recovered from the disease, improving the discharge rate to 68.33 per cent, the bulletin said.

834 new coronavirus cases in MP; 13 more die, 723 recover

Madhya Pradesh on Thursday recorded 834 fresh coronavirus cases, 233 of them in Bhopal, taking the infection count in the state to 30,968, health
officials said. With 13 more people succumbing to the viral infection, the death toll rose to 857 in the state, the officials said.

Record spike of 11,147 COVID-19 cases in Maha; 8,860 recover

With the highest single-day spike of 11,147 COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra on Thursday, the infection count in the state surged to 4,11,798, the health
department said. 

As the virus claimed 266 lives during the day, the number of victims in the state rose to 14,729, it said in a statement.
A total of 8,860 patients were discharged on Thursday, which took the count of recovered persons to 2,48,615, the department said. 

There are now 1,48,454 active cases in Maharashtra, it said, adding that the state's recovery rate is now 60.37 per cent, while the mortality rate is 3.58 per cent. So far, 20,70,128 people have been tested for COVID-19 in the state.

1,093 fresh COVID-19 cases take Delhi's tally to 1.34 lakh; death toll 3,936

Delhi recorded 1,093 fresh coronavirus cases on Thursday, taking the tally to over 1.34 lakh, while the death toll climbed to 3,936, authorities said.
Twenty-nine fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the bulletin released by the Delhi health department on Thursday.

Biggest single-day spike of 6,128 new COVID-19 cases in Karnataka

Karnataka on Thursday reported the biggest single-day spike of 6,128 new cases of COVID-19 and 83 related fatalities, taking the total number of
infections to 1,18,632 and the death toll to 2,230, the health department said. The day also saw a record of 3,793 patients getting discharged after recovery.

Gujarat: coronavirus tally exceeds 60,000 with 1,159 new cases

With yet another highest single-day spike of 1,159, the tally of coronavirus cases in Gujarat crossed 60,000 on Thursday. The number of cases in the state reached 60,285, said a release by the Health Department.

Kerala records 506 positive cases, two fatalities

Kerala reported 506 positive cases and 794 recoveries on Thursday as the death toll climbed to 70 with two more fatalities. The infection tally has now touched 22,297. Thirty-seven health workers tested positive for the infection today. The state has decided to implement home care isolation on an experimental basis for health workers who test positive but are asymptomatic.
Those interested will have to give an affidavit about their willingness to undergo the treatment at home, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters.

Jammu and Kashmir recorded its highest single-day spike in the COVID-19 death toll on Thursday as 17 patients succumbed in the last 24 hours, even as the Union Territory recorded 450 new coronavirus cases, taking the number of infected people to 19,869, officials said.

TN reports 5,864 new COVID-19 cases, 97 deaths

In a dip in fresh COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu, a total of 5,864 people tested positive on Thursday compared to around 7,000 in the last few days while the total infection count rose to 2,39,978. The toll due to the disease shot up to 3,838 with 97 more deaths, a health department bulletin said.
The state recorded 5,295 recoveries, taking the cumulative number of those discharged to 1,78,178. Active cases, including those in isolation, were 57,962. Testing of samples continued to remain high as 61,202 specimens were examined on Thursday, taking the total to 25,97,862 the bulletin said.

MLA tests positive for coronavirus in Maharashtra

An MLA from Maharashtra's Nanded district tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday, a government official said. The legislator had developed COVID-19 symptoms two days back and his swab sample had been collected, said the district official. He was shifted to Mumbai for further treatment.  State Public Works Department minister Ashok Chavan who hails from Nanded district had contracted the virus earlier. He recovered from the infection.

Record 57 COVID-19 deaths, highest single-day spike of 3,705 cases in UP

Uttar Pradesh on Thursday reported the biggest single-day spike of 3,705 COVID-19 cases and a record 57 deaths due to the disease, taking the infection tally to more than 81,000 and death toll to 1,587 in the state.
 "There are 32,649 active COVID-19 cases in the state and 46,803 patients have been discharged after treatment," Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health, Amit Mohan Prasad told reporters.

Over 1 million people recover from COVID-19 in India: Health Ministry

While briefing about the coronavirus situation in the country, Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, Ministry of Health said, "More than 1 million people have recovered from COVID-19 in the country. This landmark recovery has been achieved because of the selfless work and dedication of our doctors, nurses and frontline workers."

"16 states of the country have a recovery rate that is more than the national average. Of these, Delhi has a recovery rate of 88%, Ladakh 80%, Haryana 78%, Assam 76%, Telangana 74%, Tamil Nadu & Gujarat 73%, Rajasthan 70%, MP 69% and Goa 68%", added Bhushan.

The case fatality rate in India today is 2.21% and it's among the lowest in the world. 24 States and Union Territories have lesser fatality rate than that of the country.

Telangana logs 1,811 new COVID-19 cases, 13 deaths

Hyderabad:Telangana recorded 1,811 fresh COVID-19 cases and 13 fatalities, pushing the state's gross further up to 60,717.

Out of the new positive cases, 521 were from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), followed by Ranga Reddy (289) and Medchal-Malkajgiri (151) districts, a state government bulletin said on Thursday, providing data as of 8 PM on July 29.

Odisha's COVID-19 tally crosses 30,000-mark, death toll mounts to 169

Odisha's COVID-19 count crossed the 30,000-mark with 1,203 fresh infections reported in a day, while 10 more deaths due to the disease pushed the toll to 169, a Health Department official said on Thursday.

The fresh cases were reported from 28 of the state's 30 districts, he said.

Mizoram's COVID-19 tally reaches 398

Aizawl (Mizoram): The total number of COVID-19 positive cases is 398 in Mizoram as of Wednesday, the Department of Information and Public Relations of Mizoram government informed.

The cases include 215 discharged cases and 183 active cases, it added.

India's coronavirus cases have risen to 15.31 lakh with the number of active cases at 5,09,447 while 9,88,030 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

540 new cases take J&K's Covid tally past 19K-mark 

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday reported 540 new cases, taking the Union Territorys Covid-19 tally to 19,419, while 15 people succumbed to the dreaded virus in the last 24 hours, mounting the UTs death toll to 348.

A statement issued by the Information and Public Relations department said, "A total of 540 persons have tested positive, 151 from Jammu division and 389 from Kashmir division, as the total number of people infected by coronavirus in J&K reached 19,419."

So far 11,322 patients have completely recovered. The number of active cases in J&K is 7,749 now, of which 1,957 are in Jammu division and 5,792 are in Kashmir division.
