UP minister Mohsin Raza tests COVID-19 positive

Uttar Pradesh Minister Mohsin Raza on Monday said he has tested positive for COVID-19 and asked everyone who had come in contact with him in the last few days to quarantine themselves.

Raza, who is the Minister of State for Minority Welfare, Muslim Waqf and Haj in Uttar Pradesh, said on the advice of doctors, he has quarantined himself at his residence.

"In the past, some staff attached to me had tested positive for COVID-19. After having symptoms of COVID-19, I underwent test on Monday. I have tested positive for COVID-19.

Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar has been discharged from a hospital in Bengaluru after recovering from COVID-19.

Shivakumar was admitted to the hospital on August 24.

Sharing the information of his discharge, Suguna Hospital on Monday said, "Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar has been discharged from hospital after recovering from COVID-19."

On August 25, the Congress leader himself confirmed the news about his health on Twitter.

"I had a fever and have tested positive for the coronavirus. I am doing well, but as a precaution have been hospitalised and am under the good care of doctors. With your wishes and blessings, I will soon be back. I appeal to all those who came in contact with me to be cautious," he had tweeted.

Notably, former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah had earlier this month tested positive for coronavirus as well. He had later recovered from the virus after treatment but was advised to stay in home quarantine.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, who had also tested positive for COVID-19, had also recently recovered from the virus.

COVID-19: Over 5K fresh cases, 63 more deaths in UP

The death toll due to coronavirus climbed to 3,486 in Uttar Pradesh with 63 fresh COVID-19 fatalities reported from the state, a senior official said on Monday.

Briefing reporters here, Additional Chief Secretary (Medicine and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said as many as 5,061 fresh cases have been reported from the state.

321 new COVID-19 cases raise Tripura's tally to 11,647

Tripura reported at least 321 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday, pushing the tally to 11,647, a health department official said.

The death toll rose to 103 with five more patients succumbing to the virus, he said.

Four fatalities were reported from West Tripura district and one from Khowai.

After 10 days of self-isolation following COVID-19 infection, Erode District Collector C Kathiravan recovered and held an inspection of the special wards for virus patients at various hospitals on Monday.

Perundurai IRT Government Medical College Hospital, Erode Government HeadquartersHospital and a private marriage hall at Perundurai and a private matriculation school, which was converted into a COVID-19 care centre, in Erode were inspected.

The Collector tested positive for the virus 10 days ago, decided on self-quarantine and took medicines.

1,326 new COVID-19 cases, 10 more deaths reported in J'khand

Ten more people succumbed to COVID-19 in Jharkhand, pushing the death toll to 410, while 1,326 new coronavirus cases raised the tally in the state 38,438, a health department official said on Monday.

Of the 10 fatalities, seven were reported from East Singhbhum, and one each from West Singhbhum, Pakur and Dumka.

Ranchi reported the maximum number of fresh cases at 248, followed by Bokaro at 178, Dumka at 157, Ramgarh at 124 and Chhatra at 110. The remaining cases were recorded in 18 other districts of the state.

COVID-19: Three MLAs test positive, five fresh fatalities in Rajasthan

Three MLAs in Rajasthan tested positive for coronavirus on Monday.

Congress MLA Ramesh Meena and two BJP MLAs Hameer Singh Bhayal and Chandrabhan Singh Aakya have contracted the virus.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot wished them a speedy recovery.

"I have come to know Congress MLA Ramesh Meena ji, BJP MLAs Hameer Singh Bhayal ji and Chandrabhan Singh Aakya ji have tested positive for #Covid_19... I wish them a speedy recovery," Gehlot tweeted.

Another MLA in Odisha tests positive for COVID-19

BJD MLA Byomakesh Ray on Monday tested positive for COVID-19, raising the number of lawmakers infected with coronavirus in Odisha to 13.

Taking to Facebook, the Chandbali MLA expressed regret for not being able to serve the flood-hit people of his constituency.

"Tested Covid positive. Requesting all those who have got close contact with me to be cautious and isolate themselves. With the blessings of God I am stable now. Feeling Very sad not to be able to serve the flood affected people of Chandabali," he posted on Facebook.

Telangana reports 1,873 new COVID-19 cases; 9 deaths take toll to 827

Telangana reported 1,873 new COVID-19 cases, taking the overall tally to 1,24,963 while nine more deaths pushed the toll to 827.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 360, followed by Karimnagar (180), Rangareddy (129) and Khammam (103) districts, a government bulletin said on Monday, providing data as of 8 pm on August 30.

As many as 37,791 samples were tested on August 30. Cumulatively, 13,65,582 samples have been tested.

The samples tested per million population was 36,782, the bulletin said.

The case fatality rate in the state was 0.66 per cent, while it was 1.78 per cent at the national level.

With 78,512 new cases, India's COVID-19 tally crosses 36-lakh mark

India added 78,512 new cases to its COVID-19 tally in the last 24 hours, taking the national caseload past 36-lakh mark, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) on Monday.

With 971 new deaths, the cumulative toll reached 64,469.

The coronavirus cases in the country mounted to 36,21,246 including 7,81,975 active cases, 27,74,802 cured/discharged/migrated.

With 1,93,889 active cases, the coronavirus situation in Maharashtra continues to remain the most affected state followed.

Andhra Pradesh has 99,129 active cases while Karnataka reported 88,110 active cases.

8,46,278 samples were tested on August 30 and over 4.23 crores samples have been tested so far, as per the information provided by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

The Union Health Ministry informed us that the last 5 lakh recoveries have been recorded in only 8 days.

"Last 5 lakh recoveries have been recorded in only 8 days in comparison to preceding 5 lakh recoveries which were recorded in 10 and 9 days, respectively," MOHFW tweeted.

"Responsive, collaborative and effective measures right from early identification through aggressive TESTING to efficient TRACKING and comprehensive TREATMENT have collectively led to these outcomes," the ministry said in another tweet.

Four more MLAs test positive for COVID-19 in Assam

Guwahati: A day before the Autumn Session of Assam Assembly, four more MLAs tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, taking the total number of legislators contracting the virus in the state to 24, a senior official said.

The reports of Naren Sonowal (AGP), Rituparna Baruah (BJP), Anwar Hussain Laskar (AIUDF) and Najrul Hoque (AIUDF) came out positive at a testing camp in the assembly, he said.

"Four MLAs tested positive on Sunday out of 32 lawmakers. The Health Department is making necessary arrangements for their treatment," Legislative Assembly
Principal Secretary Mrigendra Kumar Deka told.

During the three-day testing camp in the assembly, a total of 24 people, including a journalist and five MLAs, have tested positive out of 431 samples, an official said.

BJP MLA Bir Bhadra Hagjer had tested COVID-19 positive on Saturday.

Of the 24 legislators who have contracted the virus so far, 13 are from the BJP and five from its allies, including three from the AGP. The Assam Legislative Assembly has a total strength of 126 MLAs.

Assam Hill Areas Development Minister Sum Ronghang became the first minister of the BJP-led Assam government to be diagnosed with COVID-19 on August 25.

The four-day Autumn Session will take place from August 31 with 50 per cent presence of the MLAs to maintain social distancing norms, Deka said.

"There will be supplementary grants and presentation of 19 bills in the session. Out of the four days, three days will have Question Hours. No visitors will be allowed," he added.
