Protests against '3-capital' proposal during Bhogi in Amaravati

People in Amaravati were seen burning the GN Rao Committee report in the 'Bhogi' fire in protest against the government's three-capital proposal. Outside households, muggus (rangolis) with the message 'Save Amaravati, Save Andhra Pradesh' were also seen.

A festive atmosphere prevailed in the residential colonies of Hyderabad as the three-day Sankranti celebrations kicked off with 'Bhogi' today.

Men, women and children went around the bonfires singing and dancing. The fire provided relief to the participants from the chilly weather.

VP Naidu celebrates Bhogi with family, greets nation

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu extended his greetings to the people on 'Bhogi', and tweeted a picture of him celebrating the festival with his family members in Chennai. "May this day make our future as bright as the sunshine, and bring joy, prosperity, and happiness into the lives of all," he said.

Naidu takes part in Bhogi festivities, GN Rao Committee report burnt

Festivities got a political colour in Andhra Pradesh, as former Andhra Pradesh CM and TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu today morning took part in Bhogi festival, held by Amaravati Parirakshana Samithi in Vijayawada. The leaders burnt GN Rao Committee report, which first recommended three capitals for Andhra Pradesh.

Tamil Nadu celebrates Bhogi

People across Tamil Nadu were seen celebrating Bhogi, which marks the beginning of the four-day Pongal festival. 

'Bhogi' consists of burning of old and unwanted items like old clothes, mats and broom sticks in the belief that new things will usher into their lives.
