Devotees of Sabrimala Temple to Undergo Antigen Tests

Kerala government has decided to allow devotees in Sabarimala temple for the Mandalam-Makaravilakku season. 

In a high-level meeting convened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, it was decided that the number of devotees will be reduced and will only be allowed through a virtual queue system. 

Overnight stay at Sannidhanam will not be allowed. Antigen tests will be conducted for devotees at Nilakkal and Pamba camps. 

Sabarimala Temple will open its doors to pilgrims on November 16 for the season.

Maharashtra: COVID-19 patient commits suicide in Sangli

A 56-year-old COVID-19 patient allegedly committed suicide by slitting his throat in Sangli after calling his son and asking him to take care of the family, police said. 

The incident happened late Sunday night at a COVID the facility in Miraj, some 240 kilometres from Pune, police added.

Tripura reports 193 new cases, 3 more deaths

Agartala: Tripura reported 193 new cases of COVID-19, taking the state's tally to 24,921, a Health Department official said.

Three more people died in the state, following which the toll rose to 270, he said.

There are 5,692 active cases in the state at present.

So far, 18,936 people have recovered from the disease in the state.

Twenty-three patients have migrated to other states, the official said.

Ladakh reports 10 fresh  cases, one death

One more patient succumbed to coronavirus in Ladakh, taking the death toll to 58 in the Union Territory, while the infection tally reached 4,103 with 10 fresh cases, officials said on Monday.

Fourteen patients were discharged after being cured of the contagion during the past 24 hours, they said.

With the death of one more patient from COVID-19 in Kargil district, the total number of fatalities in Ladakh has gone up to 58 -- 34 in Kargil and 24 in Leh district.

Five residents each in Leh and Kargil tested positive for the virus on Sunday, taking the total number of cases in the region to 4,103, the officials said.

Thirteen patients have recovered from the infection and subsequently discharged in Leh, and another in Kargil, bringing down the number of active cases to 1,013 -- 607 in Leh and 406 in Kargil.

Maha: 214 new cases in Aurangabad; 7 more die

Aurangabad has added 214 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the Maharashtra district to 32,993, an official said on Monday.

The district also reported seven more deaths due to COVID-19 on Sunday, raising the toll to 916, he said.

Nearly 77,000 security personnel tested positive, 401 succumbed till Aug 21

As many as 76,768 police personnel all over the country including paramilitary forces such as CRPF, CISF, BSF and NSG tested positive for COVID-19 while 401 succumbed to the killer virus, according to a report by the Bureau of Police Research and Development.

The report (compiled till August 21) titled "Indian Police Response to COVID-19 Crisis" said, Maharashtra topped the chart with 129 deaths due to COVID-19 and 12,760 positive cases among the police personnel.

Telangana was in second place with 40 deaths due to the virus.

Out of the over 75,000 positive cases, paramilitary forces accounted for 15,318 infections with Central Reserve Police Force leading the table with 5,467 cases and 24 deaths in the category.

COVID-19 recoveries in India over 50 lakh

Total recoveries from COVID-19 in India crossed the 50 lakh milestone on Monday with recovered cases outpacing active cases by more than five times, the Union Health Ministry said.

In a statement, the ministry said the rise in the number of total recovered cases from 1 lakh in June 2020 has been steep and the last 10 lakh recoveries were added in just 11 days.

"India's total recoveries have crossed the landmark milestone of 50 lakh today (50,16,520). With a very high number of COVID patients recovering every single day, India's steady trend of posting high level of daily recoveries continues," the ministry said.

"The total recovered cases have outpaced active cases by more than 5 times. With the exponential increase in the recoveries, there is close to 100 per cent increase in recovered cases in one month," it said.

Odisha reports 3,235 fresh COVID-19 cases, 16 more deaths

Odisha's COVID-19 tally rose to 2,12,609 on Monday as 3,235 more people tested positive for the disease, a health department official said.

The death toll due to the infection crossed the 800- mark in the state with 16 more fatalities taking the total to 813, he said.

"Regret to inform the demise of sixteen COVID positive patients while under treatment in hospitals," the Health and Family Welfare Department said on Twitter.

Puducherry reports 286 new COVID-19 cases

Puducherry, Sep 28 (PTI) Puducherry on Monday reported 286 fresh COVID-19 cases while two more patients including a 51-year old woman succumbed to the infection, taking the toll to 515, a top Health department official said.

The 286 fresh cases were reported after examination of 3,596 samples during the last 24 hours pushing the tally to 26,685 (after transfer of one case to Tamil Nadu), Director of

Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release.

He said 505 patients recovered and were discharged during the last 24 hours from various hospitals.

Senior Congress MLA H K Patil tests positive forcoronavirus

 Karnataka Congress MLA HK Patil on Monday said he had tested positive for coronavirus.

"I have been tested positive for #Covid19. I am asymptomatic but quarantined myself for 10 days," Patil, a former minister and Congress in-charge of Maharashtra, tweeted this morning.

Expressing hope that he would be perfectly alright soon, Patil requested all those who had come in his contact in the last few days to get themselves tested as a precaution.

Goa DGP tests coronavirus positive

Goa's Director General of Police Mukesh Kumar Meena on Monday tested positive for coronavirus infection, a senior health department official said.

Meena is admitted in a private hospital and his condition is stable, he said.

"His test report came out positive on Monday morning. He has mild symptoms," the official said.

Till Sunday, Goa reported 31,958 COVID-19 cases and 401 deaths due to the disease.

 Arunachal's COVID-19 tally crosses 9,000-mark with 135 new cases

Arunachal Pradesh's COVID-19 tally crossed the 9,000-mark on Monday as 135 more people, including 26 security personnel, tested positive for the disease, a health department official said.

The fresh infections have taken the northeastern state's caseload to 9,004, he said.

Of the new cases, 62 were reported from the Capital Complex region, 18 from Kra Daadi, 13 from West Siang, eight from East Siang, seven from Lower Siang and six from Papumpare, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

Telangana adds 1,378 new COVID-19 cases; seven deaths push toll to 1,107

Telangana recorded 1,378 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the tally to 1,87,211, while the death toll rose to 1,107 with seven more fatalities.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) saw 254 fresh cases, followed by Rangareddy (110), Karimnagar (78), Medchal Malkajgiri (73), Siddipet (61) and other districts, a state government bulletin said on Monday, providing data as of 8 pm on September 27.

Maha: Thane's COVID-19 tally crosses 1.70 lakh

The COVID-19 tally in Thane reached 1,70,157 on Monday after 1,523 new cases were found in the Maharashtra district, an official said.

The death toll in the district rose to 4,365 after 30 people succumbed to the viral infection on Sunday, he said.

Out of the new COVID-19 cases, 418 were reported from Thane city, 347 from Navi Mumbai, 340 from Kalyan town and the remaining from other parts of the district, he said.

Kalyan has so far reported the maximum COVID-19 cases at 41,466, followed by Thane city-35,653 and Navi Mumbai- 35,552, the official said.

India has over 60L cases

With a spike of 82,170 coronavirus cases and 1,039 deaths in 24 hours, India's tally on Monday breached the 60 lakh-mark with a total of 60,74,702 cases.

Out of these, 9,62,640 are currently active; 50,16,520 have been discharged, while 95,542 lost the battle against the viral disease.

On July 17, India had logged 10 lakh cases, which then doubled to 20 lakh on August 7. The country added another 10 lakh on August 23 and went past 40 lakh on September 5. In 11 days, it added another 10 lakh cases, mounting to 50 lakh cases. Twelve days later the tally has mounted to 60 lakh.

While the recovery rate stands at 82.58 per cent, one of the highest in the world; the fatality rate has come down to 1.57 per cent, the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit with a total of 13,39,232 cases including 35,571 deaths; followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

According to the data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 7,09,394 sample tests were conducted across the country in a single day on Sunday, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 7,19,67,230.

On the global front, India rallies behind the US, which has recorded 71,13,666 cases and 2,04,750 deaths. As of Monday morning, the total number of cases in the world stood at 3,29,77,556 and the fatalities rose to 9,96,674.

1,200 inmates in UP jails test positive

In the 71 jails across Uttar Pradesh, there are 1,200 inmates who have been infected with Covid-19.

According to Anand Kumar, Director General, Prison Administration and Reform Services, till date about 1,40,000 tests, including (those on) 5,000 staff members, have been conducted in the state's temporary and permanent jails, and over 7,000 had tested positive so far. Two inmates have died of the virus.

The official said that in the past one week, at least 128 prisoners have tested positive for Covid in Fatehgarh Central Jail.

On Saturday, 76 prisoners were found positive and all of them have been kept under isolation in a separate jail barracks for treatment.

Senior Superintendent of Fatehgarh Central Jail S.H.M. Rizvi, said that the first case was reported on September 20 and since then 128 prisoners have been found infected with the disease.

9,543 new cases spike K'taka tally to 5.75-lakh

With 9,543 new cases across the state, Karnataka's Covid tally shot up to 5,75,566, including 1,04,724 active cases so far.

"As 6,522 recovered during the last 24 hours, 4,62,241 patients have been discharged till date across the southern state," said the state health bulletin on Sunday.

The death toll also increased to 8,582 so far with 79 more succumbing to the infection in the last 24 hours.

As epicentre of the virus, Bengaluru registered 4,217 fresh cases, taking its tally to 2,20,847, including 44,274 active cases, while 1,73,736 were discharged so far, with 3,306 over the last 24 hours.

372 fresh COVID-19 cases takes tally to 26,400 in Puducherry
A total of 372 fresh COVID-19 cases and 13 deaths in the union territory took the infection count to 26,400 and the toll to 513 on Sunday, the government said

The deceased included four women and were in the age group of 31 to 80 and most of them had comorbidities, a release from the health department said.

A total of 4,623 samples were tested, taking the total number of specimens examined so far to 1,71,561, Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said.

The overall COVID-19 cases in the union territory stood at 26,400 (after transfer of four cases to Tamil Nadu), he said.

He said that 443 patients recovered and were discharged during the last twenty four hours from hospitals.

Karnataka's Congress MLA Gundu Rao tests positive

Karnataka's Congress legislator Dinesh Gundu Rao tested coronavirus positive and was sent in home isolation, an official said on Sunday.

"Rao's swab sample result, which came earlier in the day, was positive. He is presently in isolation at his home in the city," party spokesman Ravi Gowda said.

Rao, 50, is a fifth-time legislator from Gandhinagar segment in Bengaluru central suburb.

"I have tested corona positive today. Therefore, will be quarantining myself for 10 days. I request all my primary contacts to get checked and take precautions," Rao tweeted.

Rao attended the truncated 6-day Monsoon Session of the Assembly at Vidhana Soudha in the city centre till Saturday night.

 1,141 more test  positive; tally crosses 72,000

Another 1,141 people tested Covid-19 positive in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, taking the total number of people infected with the novel coronavirus beyond 72,000 in the Union Territory.

A statement issued by the Information and Public Relations department said of 1,141 people tested positive, 689 are from Jammu division while 452 are from Kashmir division.

So far, 72,190 people have been infected with coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir.

A total of 52,859 have completely recovered.

 After highs of 5 days, Maha deaths decline

 After five days, Maharashtra's Covid-19 deaths dropped below the 400-mark, though fresh cases continued to remain on the high, health officials said here on Sunday.

The state recorded 18,056 new cases - lower than the peak day's tally of 24,886 - pushing up the total from 13,21,176 to 13,39,232 cases till date.

Adding 380 more fatalities - down from the peak of 515 - the death toll shot up from 35,191 to 35,571 now.

The recovery rate dropped marginally - from 76.94 per cent to 76.91 per cent - while the current mortality (death) rate stood at 2.66 per cent on Sunday.

India's COVID-19 tally crossed the 60-lakh mark with a spike of 82,170 new cases and 1,039 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

The total case tally stood at 60,74,703 including 9,62,640 active cases, 5,01,6521 cured/discharged/migrated and 95,542 deaths, the Ministry said.

Thiruvananthapuram:As many as 7,445 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 in Kerala on Sunday, said state Health Minister KK Shailaja.

"Covid-19 was confirmed in 7,445 persons in Kerala today while 3,391 patients under treatment for the same have recovered. Of the cases detected today, 6,965 were infected through contact out of which the source of infection was unknown in 561 cases," Shailaja said.

Among the new case, 62 are those who arrived from overseas and 309 from other states, she said.

Moreover, 21 new deaths in the state due to COVID-19 has taken the death toll to 677.

According to the district-wise figures for the new active cases, Kozhikode has the highest number of people infected with the disease at 956, followed by Ernakulam (924), Malappuram (915), Thiruvananthapuram (853), Kollam (690), Thrissur (573), Palakkad (488), Alappuzha (476), Kottayam (426), Kannur (332), Pathanamthitta (263), Kasargod (252), Wayanad (172) and Idukki (125).

As many as 1,17,921 people have so far recovered from COVID-19 in Kerala and at present, there are 56,709 patients undergoing treatment for COVID-19 across the state.

A total of 2,27,831 people are currently under observation in various districts, 1,99,061 under home or institutional quarantine and 28,770 in hospitals. 3,752 persons were hospitalised on Sunday, the Health Minister said.

In the last 24 hours, 54,493 samples were analysed. Till now, a total of 27,70,734 samples have been sent for testing, including 2,02,058 samples from priority groups, as part of sentinel surveillance.

Moreover, the Health Ministry informed that 17 new areas were declared as hotspots on Sunday, while 14 places were exempted. There are presently 655 hotspots in Kerala.
