10 deaths, 206 fresh COVID-19 cases in Telangana

Telangana witnessed a surge in COVID-19 cases on Saturday, with 206 fresh infections being reported apart from 10 deaths, taking the tally in the state

to 3,496 and fatalities to 123. According to a state government bulletin, all the fresh cases were reported from different parts of Telangana. Out of the 206 cases, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area accounted for 152. No new case was found among migrants, deportees and foreign returnees, it said.

The bulletin said 1,710 people have been discharged so far from hospitals after recovery, while the number of people under treatment was 1,663.

COVID-19 death toll in Bengal rises to 311; total cases at 7,738

West Bengal reported 17 more COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 311 while the state also registered its highest single-day spike in cases with 435 new patients, pushing the virus count to 7,738, a health department bulletin said on Saturday.

The number of active cases currently stands at 4,236. Earlier, the government had said that 72 coronavirus-afflicted patients died due to comorbidities and COVID-19 in those cases was "incidental".

Maharashtra sees 2,739 new COVID-19 cases; death toll nears 3,000

Maharashtra on Saturday reported spike of 2,739 new COVID-19 cases, taking the overall case count to 82,968 while the death toll rose by 120 to 2,969,
state Health department said.
A total of 2,234 patients were discharged in the day, pushing the tally of the recovered cases to 37,390 so far, a statement said. The state now has 42,609 active cases, it said, adding that a total of 5,37,124 samples have been tested so far.

108 new COVID-19 cases in Kerala, total infection count rises to 1,807; footballer succumbs to virus

Kerala reported 108 COVID-19 cases on Saturday, pushing the total infection count to 1,807, as one person succumbed to the virus, taking the toll to 15 in the state.

While 1,029 people are presently under treatment, 762 people have recovered, Health Minister K K Shailaja said in a press release. Of the 50 people whose samples have returned negative today, 30 are from Palakkad, which has the highest number of cases in the state.

29 Aurangabad central jail inmates test positive

A few days after an inmate tested positive for novel coronavirus in the central jail in Harsul in Maharashtra's Aurangabad, 29 others who were in contact were detected with the infection on Saturday afternoon, said an official.

Collector Uday Choudhari told a news agency 25 of those who tested positive are from central jail while four are from a temporary facility created for undertrials.

Nineteen more people succumbed to the coronavirus in Chennai which reported a spike of 1,458 fresh cases on Saturday taking the infection count to 30,152

and death toll to 251, the health department said. This is the seventh consecutive day the state is witnessing more than 1000 plus cases.

The number of people who got cured stood at 633 on Saturday, totalling 16,395 till date, a department bulletin said.

Chennai recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases at 1,146 among districts today, aggregating 20,993 till date, it added.

NDRF man tests COVID positive after return from cyclone-hit Bengal, 173 being tested

An NDRF personnel has tested positive for COVID-19 after his return to Odisha from cyclone Amphan-hit West Bengal following restoration work, official sources said on Saturday.

With detection of the case, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) authorities have ordered testing of all 173 men who were deployed in the neighbouring state on post-cyclone duty, they said.

Two Vistara pilots test COVID-19 positive after flight simulator training

Two Vistara pilots have tested positive for COVID-19 after undergoing flight simulator training, the airline said on Saturday. "Two of our pilots on returning to duty, unfortunately tested positive for COVID-19 after undergoing some flight simulator training. As part of our contact tracing efforts, we immediately placed all the direct and secondary contacts in home-quarantine," a Vistara spokesperson said.

Pilots who were in direct contact with these two pilots were sent for RT-PCR COVID-19 test, the spokesperson said, adding, "So far, the results for some of the pilots have been found negative while others are still pending."

With 370 fresh cases, UP's COVID-19 tally crosses 10k-mark

The number of coronavirus positive cases in Uttar Pradesh crossed the 10,000-mark with 370 fresh cases reported on Saturday even as the number of casualties rose to 268. The number of COVID-19 cases in the state now stands at 10,103 as on Saturday.

Principal secretary, health, Amit Mohan Prasad said the number of active cases in the state was 3,927 and the number of those who have recovered and been discharged from hospitals was 5,908. So, far 268 people have lost their lives to coronavirus with 11 more deaths, Prasad said.

Assam reports 81 new cases of COVID-19; total rises to 2,324

Assam reported 81 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, taking the total tally in the state to 2,324, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The fresh patients, among whom were four had returned to the state recently by air, were reported from 11 districts with Hojai detecting the highest 40 cases, he said.

Uttarakhand reported 31 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking the tally to 1,245, according to the state health department's bulletin.

The fresh cases were reported from Pithoragarh (8), Dehradun (6), Chamoli (6), Almora (4), Nainital (3), Tehri (3) and Uttarkashi (1), it said. Most of the new cases have a travel history to Mumbai, Delhi and NCR, the bulletin said.

Two judges test positive for COVID-19

In the first such instance in West Bengal two judges of a city court have tested positive for COVID-19 following which people who had come in contact with them have been advised to proceed on home quarantine, state helth department sources said Saturday.

Woman dies at Jaipur railway station, later tests positive for COVID-19

A 65-year-old woman has tested positive for COVID-19 after she died at the Jaipur railway station while de-boarding a train, officials said on Saturday.

Railway officials said that as soon as the woman reached the railway station on Friday, she fell unconscious and was declared dead. 

The body was sent to a hospital where her samples were taken and she was found COVID-19 positive.

Former Footballer dies of Covid, toll touches 15

Former Santosh Trophy Footballer, E Hamsakoya, who had tested positive for COVID-19, succumbed to the virus early Saturday at a hospital here,
taking the toll due to the infection in the state to 15.

Native of nearby Parappanangadi,Hamsakoya (61) had settled in Mumbai.

He and his family had come down to his hometown on May 21 and had been under quarantine.

Hamsakoya's five family members have also tested positive and areundergoing treatment.

TN govt caps COVID-19 treatment charges in private hospitals

The Tamil Nadu government capped the charges for COVID-19 treatment in private hospitals across the state and announced that no fee over and above the fixed slab can be claimed from patients.

The per day charges for treatment in Intensive Care Units shall not exceed Rs 15,000 and in general wards, for asymptomatic people and those with mild symptoms, the maximum
is Rs 7,500, the government said.

India now sixth worst-hit nation by COVID-19

India is now the sixth worst-affected nation in terms of coronavirus infection cases after the US, Brazil, Russia, Spain and the UK, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Of the 294 deaths reported since Friday morning, 139 were in Maharashtra, 58 in Delhi, 35 in Gujarat, 12 each in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, 11 in West Bengal, eight in Telangana, seven in Madhya Pradesh, five in Rajasthan, two in Andhra Pradesh and one each in Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Punjab Jharkhand and Uttarakhand.

Of the total 6,642 fatalities, Maharashtra tops tally with 2,849 deaths followed by Gujarat with 1,190 deaths, Delhi with 708, Madhya Pradesh with 384, West Bengal with 366, Uttar Pradesh with 257,Tamil Nadu with 232,

Rajasthan with 218, Telangana with 113 and Andhra Pradesh with 73 deaths.

The death toll reached 57 in Karnataka and 48 in Punjab.

Jammu and Kashmir has reported 36 fatalities due to the disease, Bihar has 29, Haryana has 24 deaths, Kerala has 14, Uttarakhand has 11, Odisha has eight and Jharkhand has reported seven deaths so far.

Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh have registered five COVID-19 fatalities each. Assam has recorded four deaths, while Chhattisgarh has reported two deaths so far.

Meghalaya and Ladakh have reported one COVID-19 fatality each, according to the ministry data.

According to the ministry's website, more than 70 per cent of the deaths are due to comorbidities.

According to the health ministry data updated in the morning, the highest number of confirmed cases in the country are from Maharashtra at 80,229, followed by Tamil Nadu at 28,694, Delhi at 26,334, Gujarat at 19,094, Rajasthan at 10,084,Uttar Pradesh at 9,733 and Madhya Pradesh at 8,996.

The number of COVID-19 cases has gone up to 7,303 in West Bengal,4,835 in Karnataka,4,596 in Bihar and4,303 in Andhra Pradesh.

It has risen to3,597 in Haryana,3,324 in Jammu and Kashmir, 3,290 in Telangana and 2,608 in Odisha.

Punjab has reported 2,461 coronavirus infections so far, while Assam has 2,153 cases. A total of 1,699 people have been infected with the virus in Kerala and 1,215 in Uttarakhand.

Jharkhand has registered 881 cases, Chhattisgarh has 879, Tripura has 692, Himachal Pradesh has393, Chandigarh has 304 cases, Goa has 196, Manipur has 132 and Puducherry has 99 cases.

Ladakh has 97 COVID-19 cases, Nagaland has 94, Arunachal Pradesh has 45, while Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Meghalaya have registered 33 infections each.

Mizoram has reported 22 cases and Dadar and Nagar Haveli has 14 cases, while Sikkim has reported three cases till now.

"8,192 cases are being reassigned to states," the ministry said on its website adding "our figures are being reconciled with the ICMR."

State-wise distribution is subject to further verification and reconciliation, it said.

Five people have tested positive for COVID-19 at the headquarters of Enforcement Directorate (ED) situated at Lok Nayak Bhawan, Khan Market here.

Coronavirus updates

New Delhi:With 9,887 new positive cases reported in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 count touched 2,36,657 on Saturday surpassing Italy's latest tally of over 2.34 lakh, taking India to the sixth spot among countries with the highest caseloads of the virus.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said that India registered a spike of 9887 new cases and 294 deaths in the past 24 hours taking the tally to 1,15,942 active cases and 6642 deaths.

Today's count was the highest single-day spike in the country, which has now overtaken Italy, according to the tally posted by the Johns Hopkins University which posted that globally the coronavirus had infected over 66.64 lakh people and claimed over 3.91 lakh lives so far.

In india, the MoHFW informed that 1,14,073 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated so far.

Maharashtra remains the worst-hit State as the total number of COVID-19 positive cases reached 80,229. While the total number of active cases in the state stands at 42,224.

In Tamil Nadu, 28,694 cases have been detected so far while Delhi has reported 26,334 coronavirus cases.
