Let's not be biased towards him: Congress on Rahul Gandhi's foreign trip

Congress celebrated its 136th Foundation Day, on Monday while Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have also remained absent from the key event. Speaking to ETV Bharat, Congress MP and a close aide of Rahul Gandhi, Manickam Tagore said that it would be "biased" for questioning him (Rahul) for his personal visit to abroad.

New Delhi:After BJP attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for going abroad at a time when his party is celebrating it's 136th Foundation Day and farmers are sitting on a protest at Delhi borders for agitating against farm laws, the opposition parties defend him by saying that he is "fulfilling" all of his duties being an MP and it would be "biased" for questioning him for his personal visit to abroad.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Congress MP and a close aide of Rahul Gandhi, Manickam Tagore said, "Rahul Gandhi Ji has to visit his grandmother. Does any MP not have that right? Why BJP is stooping so low to do politics? If anyone's grandmother is ill, he/she won't go to meet her? It is so unfortunate that BJP leaders, particularly the failed Union Ministers, are tweeting about Rahul Gandhi's personal visit."

"BJP always finds faults in Rahul Gandhi Ji because he is the only person who fights against Modi. He led the Tractor Yatra in Punjab and Haryana against the three farm laws. He has met the President of India twice. As farmers do not want any political support for their protest so Rahul Gandhi ji is supporting them from outside," he further added.

On Sunday, Congress informed that Rahul Gandhi has left for abroad for a short personal visit and will be away for a few days. It has been said that Gandhi has gone to Milan, Italy, where his grandmother lives.

Congress celebrated its 136th Foundation Day, on Monday. Congress President Sonia Gandhi also remained absent from the key event. Senior party leader AK Antony hoist the flag on the occasion. Among the Gandhis, only Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attended the event.

Hitting out at Rahul Gandhi, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan tweeted in Hindi, "Congress here celebrating its 136th Foundation Day and Rahul Gandhi has disappeared." Union Minister Giriraj Singh also took a jibe at Gandhi saying that his holidays has ended in India and now he has gone back to Italy.

While speaking over the matter, Manickam Tagore said, "When Rahul Gandhi was the President of Indian National Congress, he always attended the programmes. He is not the President anymore. As an MP and a Congress Working Committee member, whatever the party wants him to do, he is doing. Even all the CWC members were not present. So let us not be biased towards Rahul Gandhi."

He also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not listening to the farmers' demands who are currently protesting at the Delhi Borders. He said that PM should invite the farmers' leaders to find a solution to this issue.

"BJP should stop laughing at the farmers. PM should have the generosity to call the farmer leaders to his house and talk to them directly, not through Tomar (Narendra Singh Tomar) and Goyal (Piyush Goyal) who do not have any agricultural experience. He should behave like a Prime Minister and walk to the farmers to meet them," asserted the Congress leader.
