Knife lodged in woman's chest for 30 hours removed by doctors in Tamil Nadu

A 40-year-old woman who was stabbed by her neighbour in chest miraculously survived after the doctors removed the knife in a three-hour-long surgery after 30 hours.

Krishnagiri (Tamil Nadu): Doctors at Coimbatore Medical college removed a knife from the chest of a woman on May 27th after she was stabbed by her neighbour on May 25th.

The woman was stabbed by her neighbour in the evening and she remained in the house with the knife in her chest for the entire night. She was later admitted to Government Medical College in Salem the next morning on Mayday. She was later referred to Coimbatore Medical College.

The knife was removed after 30 hours in a three-hour-long surgery under the guidance of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Anesthesiology Department.

The woman was lucky enough to survive as only the tip of the more than six-inch knife pierced a small portion of one of the lungs, and her heart was not injured in the stabbing.

The woman was conscious when she was brought to the hospital. As the knife was left untouched, the injury did not lead to internal bleeding. The woman was discharged from the hospital after three days as she recovered completely.
