Commenting on the killing of the Border Security Force (BSF) guard on October 17, BGB chief Maj Gen Shafeenul Islam on Sunday said that the incident was "unwanted" and an inquiry is underway. A BGB man on October 17 had fired from his AK-47 rifle during a flag meeting along the international boundary in West Bengal, killing BSF head constable Vijay Bhan Singh and injuring another jawan, Rajvir Yadav.

New Delhi: Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) chief Maj Gen Shafeenul Islam on Sunday said that the killing of Border Security Force (BSF) guard which took place was "unwanted" and an inquiry in the incident is underway.

"The inquiry is in the process. We have taken steps that are necessary so as to normalise the situation. Each incident gives us lessons and we work on it so that it doesn't happen again," said Maj Gen Shafeenul Islam.

A BGB man on October 17 had fired from his AK-47 rifle during a flag meeting along the international boundary in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, killing BSF head constable Vijay Bhan Singh and injuring another jawan, Rajvir Yadav.

BSF DG Vivek Johri termed the incident "unfortunate and unexpected" and said that BSF is investigating in the incident and said both forces are drawing a detailed SOP on the subject.

Johri further clarified that the basic SOP is in place and we are now reviewing it. He said once it gets completed a meeting will take place between the BSF-BGB so that such incidents don't take place in the future.

A BGB delegation, led by its chief Maj Gen Shafeenul Islam, is on a bilateral visit to India to hold DG-level talks with their counterparts. The conference ended with the signing of a joint record of discussions by the two sides today, Border Security Forces said.
