Kerala’s class 6 student donates prize money to CMDRF to combat COVID-19

Abhinav, a class VI student studying in Koottanad Vattenad Government Higher Secondary School in Kerala, had recently won the Aksharamuttam Quiz competition and had saved the prize money amounting to Rs. 15,100 to buy a bicycle for himself. But he ended up donating the money to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to contribute to the state’s fight against coronavirus pandemic.

Palakkad (Kerala): A young boy studying in the sixth standard in Kerala’s Palakkad district donated Rs. 15,100, which he had won as prize money at a quiz competition, to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) as the state continues to fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Abhinav, a student of Koottanad Vattenad Government Higher Secondary School, had recently won the Aksharamuttam Quiz competition.

His act was also praised by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who acknowledged the little boy’s contribution and thanked him for the donation during his routine press conference.

Abhinav had planned on buying a bicycle for himself with the prize money, but as police personnel from Chalissery Janamaithri police station visited his locality, the young boy decided to part with his dream and handed over the money to them.

“He ran up to us and said uncle, I have some money and I want to donate it to CMDRF,” said one of the police personnel.

Moved by Abhinav’s gesture, a group of local merchants got together and gifted the boy a bicycle.
