Kerala:At a time when environmentalists around the world are pointing towards the role of fossil fuels in aggravating the climate change crisis, a former physics teacher from Kerala has chosen a more environment-friendly mode of transport.
He bought an electric scooter which runs for about 30 kilometres at a speed of 25 kilometres per hour if charged for three and a half hours at a stretch.
Rajesh Akleth, who is now working as a manager at the Pramadam Netaji Higher Secondary School, uses his e-scooter every day to commute to work, leaving the passers-by in awe.
"In European countries, these scooters are very common and in the Middle East too, the children use these scooters a lot. We have not heard about anyone using it in Kerala, and the reason may be the difficulty in importing them by air, which is why I imported mine by ship," Akleth told ETV Bharat.
Apart from using his scooter for his daily commute, Akleth also uses his vehicle to teach children about environment-friendly alternatives to fossil fuel-powered vehicles.
