Kanpur: The Kanpur Metro Rail Corporation on Monday informed that it will set up rainwater harvesting systems at 200 metro stations. The construction of 9 km long track has already begun which will connect the IIT Kanpur to Moti Lake.
The decision of the state government comes in the backdrop of the deteriorating status of underground water and with each passing year, the level of the waterfalls drastically. Through this system, the metro agency will be able to collect 800 litres of water every year which will cater to the requirement of many poor families. The groundwater recharge will also help in increasing water availability during the offseason for a large number of people.
Initially, the rainwater harvesting projects will be installed at nearly 200 stations. The initiative to harvest rainwater will be of much help to the public as there are a lot of people who do not have access to freshwater.
