Kanpur encounter: Eight brave policemen who sacrificed their lives!

Eight brave police personnel lost their lives in an encounter when they were engaged in a gunbattle with the criminals. Tributes poured in from all quarters and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the police officers to take stringent action against the culprits.

Kanpur: The nation mourns the demise of eight police personnel, who lost their lives in an encounter, on the intervening night of July 2 and 3 in Kanpur. Various political leaders have paid their tributes to the martyred cops and conveyed their heartfelt condolences, demanding strict action from the Yogi government.

Among the deceased were Circle Officer, Bilhor, Devendra Kumar Mishra, Shivrajpur police station officer Mahesh Chandra Yadav. The deceased sub-inspectors and Station Incharge were NebuLal of Shivrajpur Police station and Anup Kumar Singh of Mandhana Police station.

Four constables, namely Sultan Singh, Rahul, Bablu and Jitendra of Chaubeypur police station were also killed in the encounter. Let's have a look into the background of the eight brave policemen who were killed in a fierce gunbattle which has sent shockwaves across the nation.

1.Devendra Kumar Mishra

Devendra Kumar Mishra, Circle Officer hailed from Banda district under Girwa police station limits. Mr. Mishra was a bright student in academics and was inspired by his father, who was a teacher. Locals of his village told ETV Bharat that he often used to visit the village programmes and interacted with the common people.

2. Mahesh Chandra Yadav

Mahesh Chandra Yadav, Sub-Inspector of Raebareli was a resident of Vanpurva village belonging to Sarani police station. Yadav's father, Dev Narayan Yadav is a retired pump officer and his younger brother is a teacher in Lucknow. He is survived by his wife and three children.

3. NebuLal

NebuLal was posted as a Sub-Inspector at Shivrajpur Police station, who was killed in an encounter with criminals in Kanpur.

4. Anup Kumar Singh

A resident of Belkhari village under Pratapgarh police station limits, Anup Kumar Singh was the Station-Incharge posted at Mandhana Police station. He joined the UP police as an officer in 2003 and belonged to the batch of 2013-14 IAS cadres. Mr. Singh is survived by his wife and two young kids.

5. Sultan Singh

Constable Sultan Singh, posted at Bithoor's Chaubeypur Police Station belonged to Bhojla village. As soon as his family members came to know about his death, they rushed to Kanpur. The kin of the deceased has demanded strict action from the Yogi Adityanath government.

6. Jeetendra Singh

Jeetendra Singh, who joined the state police force department in 2015 belonged to Barari village under Janpat police station. Singh was posted as a constable at Bithoor's Chaubeypur Police Station and his family left for Kanpur upon learning of the incident.

7. Rahul

Rahul was a native of Modinagar and was serving as a constable at Bithoor's Chaubeypur Police Station. He is survived by his wife and two-month-old daughter. He got enrolled in the police department in 2016 and was initially posted in Kanpur.

8. Bablu Kumar

A resident of Fatehabad near Agra, Bablu Kumar was a constable at Bithoor's Chaubeypur Police Station. A pall of gloom descended upon his family members when they received the news of his death during an encounter.
