Muzaffarnagar: Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Nahid Hasan's remark against the Uttar Pradesh police has sparked controversy. Hasan was addressing people in Kotwal standing on the bonnet of the car.
The video of the SP MLA is making rounds on social media in which he can be heard urging people to come together against the high-handedness of the police.
Hasan's run-in with the local administration is not new. The objectionable remarks come in the backdrop of the Shamli district authorities denying permission to Hasan for organising a protest. The MLA had announced a dharna and a “jail bharo” agitation on November 2 in protest against corruption in police and lodging of false cases against innocent people.
On Saturday, Hasan and his supporters reached Kotwal police station and accused local police of bias following which he was booked for 'breach of peace'.
"Nahid Hasan and his 40 supporters have been booked for allegedly disrupting official work at a police station and violating coronavirus norms and creating a ruckus," an official had said.
