Pakistan violates ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district

Pakistan on Sunday resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation on the line of control (LoC) on Friday in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district by shelling mortars following which Indian Army gave a befitting reply.

Baramulla: Pakistan has violated the ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district for the third consecutive day. The ceasefire was violated along the Line of Control in the Rampur area of Baramulla district in the wee hours of Sunday morning by firing mortars and other weapons following which befitting reply was given by the Indian Army.

Pakistani troops shelled mortars along the Line of Control in Rampur sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, drawing retaliation from the Indian Army, a defence spokesperson said.

This is the second ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Rampur sector and the third in the north Kashmir district in the last three days, he added.

Earlier in the day, Pakistani troops opened fire and shelled areas along the Line of Control in Poonch district in which an army soldier was killed and two others were injured.

On Saturday, Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia had said that Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation on Friday morning along the LoC Rampur sector of Baramulla district. In this attack, one Army personnel and an elderly woman was killed while one civilian and another lady were critically injured.

Akhtar Begum, wife of Zahoor Ahmad Chechi, was killed on the spot when her house at Batgran was hit by a shell. A 23-year-old woman was also injured in the incident. Four residential houses and a mosque have been damaged in the shelling by Pakistani troops.Several families have taken refuge either in underground safety bunkers or moved to safer places elsewhere in the Uri tehsil

The officials said the latest firing and shelling from across the border that took place in Shahpur-Kerni sector on Saturday night drew strong retaliation by the Indian Army.

Even on Friday, Pakistan resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation on the line of control (LoC) on Friday in Baramulla district in which one army soldier was killed and one civilian was injured.
