Jamat-e-Islami Hind condemns Assam govt's decision to cut aid for madarasas

Education wing of Jamat-e-Islami Hind condemned the Assam education ministry's decision to shut down government-run Madrasas in the State. It said the BJP government in Assam is trying to meet its 'political goals' by cutting financial aids for the Madrasas.

New Delhi:The Markazi Taleemi Board (Central Education Board) of Jamat-e-Islami Hind condemned the Assam education ministry's decision to shut down the government-run Madarsa and said this announcement has been made for achieving political goals.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Chairman of Jamaat's Markazi Taleemi Board, Nusrat Ali said, "On one hand, the government in centre talks about making universalisation of education and on the other hand the BJP government in Assam is adopting anti-Muslim policy by withholding financial supports of Muslim institutions."

Calling the Assam government's move reprehensible, Nusrat Ali said that the State government's decision will not only discontinue the education of thousands of students studying in Madarsa but it will leave teachers and staff unemployed.

"The Madarsa's in India were established during British rule in 1930 and since then no government had thought of shutting down Madrassas but the present government has now taken the decision to target a particular committee for achieving political goals," said Nusrat Ali.

"The government takes care of security for many religious rallies, religious places, many state governments are still running Madrassas' then why they want to shut down them in one state and the reason given by the Assam education minister are baseless," the chairman of Jamaat's Markazi Taleemi Board added.

He further claimed that the Madarsa education is not only limited to Quran, the students in Madrassa are also taught other languages like English, Hindi and Science and Technology as well.

Demanding the Assam government to revoke the decision, Nusrat Ali said that the Jamaat's education board will pursue all democratic and legal means for maintaining Madarsas' financial support.
