ITBP makes PPEs for second line of health workers combating COVID-19

The Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is making Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and triple-layered masks at its Saboli centre, which will be available to second-line health workers engaged in the fight against COVID-19, reports senior journalist Chandrakala Choudhury.

New Delhi: In a critical effort to enhance safety for the second line health and administration workers who are working 24x7 to combat the spread of COVID-19, the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has started making Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and triple-layered masks at its centre at Saboli in the national capital.

"These PPEs are available to the second-line health and administration workers who are working in hospital wards, engaged directly with the public while screening, sanitizing in quarantine centres and unit hospitals. The quality of the PPE is good and has been scientifically approved by Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA) and AIIMS," an ITBP spokesperson said.

The PPE is available at the cost of Rs 100 and the triple-layered mask at less than Rs 5. Currently, 1,000 PPEs and 2,000 masks have been prepared by ITBP. On a regular basis, 200 PPE and 500 masks are prepared by the workers at ITBP fabrication centre, Saboli.

The PPE comprises an overall from head to toe that will protect health care workers or any other person from the novel coronavirus.
