Bengaluru (Karnataka): Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman K Sivan has reportedly confirmed the location of the Chandrayaan-2's lander Vikram on the lunar surface.

According to ANI, Sivan confirmed that they 'have found the location of Vikram Lander on the moon's surface via a thermal image clicked by the Chandrayaan-2's orbiter.

"However, there is no communication yet. We are trying to establish contact. More details will be communicated soon," he is said to have stated to the news agency.

It may be recalled that the soft-landing of Chandrayaan-2's Vikram module did not go according to the plan as all communication was lost moments before the scheduled landing late on September 7.

The lander was located with the help of the Chandrayaan-2 orbiter, which remains safe and is revolving around the Moon. The orbiter managed to snap a thermal image of the Vikram lander.

The descent began minutes before 1:40 am on Saturday, and then things went awry around 12 minutes after Vikram began its landing.

ISRO will investigate several factors to determine what triggered the communication loss with Chandrayaan-2's lander - Vikram.

Vikram successfully separated from Chandrayaan-2's orbiter on September 2.
