Islamic militants using Madrasas for radicalisation

The Centre on Tuesday said that the terror outfit Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh is using Madrasas in Burdwan and Murshidabad of West Bengal for activities of recruitment and radicalisation.

New Delhi:Centre on Tuesday said Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh is using Madrasas in Burdwan and Murshidabad of West Bengal for radicalisation and recruitment activities.

"There are some inputs of Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh have been using Madrasas in Burdwan and Murshidabad of West Bengal for radicalization and recruitment activities. Relevant inputs in this regard are regularly shared with the state government and agencies concerned," said Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy in the Parliament.

He said that the West Bengal government has been asked to take appropriate action.

He further said that government has notified Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh or Jamat-ul-Mujahideen India and all its manifestations as a terrorist organisation in April in terms of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

Reddy further said that the West Bengal government has also been asked to take strong actions against perpetrators engaged in post-poll violence in the state.

"Concern on the issue was shared by the government with the state government and an advisory was issued on June 9 asking the state government to maintain law and order.

Talking to ETV Bharat, Congress lawmaker from Assam, Ripun Bora termed the development as "very serious."

"If it's true, the government should take actions...similar reports poured in from time to time in Assam. If all these reports are true, it's a serious threat for the security of the country," said Bora.
