New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdury has criticised the US President Donald Trump, following his statement of over seven million people welcoming him in Gujarat, questioning whether he is lord Ram, the seventh avatar of lord Vishnu.

"He (PM Modi) told me we'll have seven million people between the airport and the event. And the stadium, I understand, is sort of semi under construction, but it's going to be the largest stadium in the world. So it's going to be very exciting... I hope you all enjoy it," Trump had said ahead of his India visit.

Speaking to media, Adhir Ranjan said, "Why is he excited? Is he lord Ram? For us he is just the US President."

Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdury questions gala preparations made ahead of US President Donald Trump on Wednesday.

"We are not here to do puja for him," Adhir Ranjan added.

Donald Trump has said that a major bilateral trade deal might be signed between America and India in the coming future. However, the deal might not be on cards during his India visit next week.

Adhir Ranjan said the trade deal is unlikely as America is enforcing a protectionist policy when it comes to trade deals with other countries.

The US remains the top trading partner for India in terms of trade in goods and services, followed by China. While the bilateral trade between US and India is approximately 62 per cent in goods and 38 per cent in services, the bilateral trade between India and China is dominated by goods.
