Rakesh Asthana takes over as Director General of BSF

Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) chief Rakesh Asthana took over the charge of director general of BSF on Monday. He however, will continue to hold addtional charge as DG, Narcotics Control Bureau.

New Delhi: IPS Rakesh Asthana took over the charge of Director General of BSF on Tuesday.

He is the 27th Director General of Border Security Force, which is the largest Border Guarding Force of the world having strength of approximately two lakh sixty-five thousand brave and dedicated men and women, protecting the international borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Rakesh Asthana is an officer from the 1984 batch of the Indian

Police service of Gujarat cadre. He has a Masters in History from St. John’s College Agra. Asthana has also served in various capacities in Gujarat Police and was also Inspector General of Police in Vadodara Range and Police Commissioner of Vadodara City and Surat.

He has held appointments in Central Bureau of Investigation at the rank of Superintendent of Police, Deputy Inspector General, Additional Director and Special Director. Before joining BSF, he was heading Bureau of Civil Aviation Security with additional charge of Director General Narcotics Control Bureau.

Rakesh Asthana is a recipient of Police Medal for Meritorious Services in 2001, and President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services in 2009.
