India successfully test-fires air, land attack versions of BrahMos missile

India successfully test-fired the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from land and air platforms on Tuesday. While the land-attack version of the missile was test-fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), the Indian Air Force successfully fired the 'air version' missile from the Su-30 MKI on a sea target off the Odisha coastline.

New Delhi:Two BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles were successfully test-fired from land and air platforms on Tuesday, defence officials said.

The land-attack version of the missile was test-fired from a mobile autonomous launcher at Launch Complex-3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Odisha's Chandipur at around 8.30 am, they said.

The trial of the surface-to-surface missile was successful, meeting all the parameters, a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) official said.

The air version of the missile was launched by the Indian Air Force (IAF) from Sukhoi-30MKI and it also successfully hit a target in the sea. "The test conducted in user configuration revalidated the ship attack capability of the advanced air-launched cruise missile," the officials said.

"Today was the third such live launch of the weapon and with this launch, the integration of the missile on Su-30MKI aircraft, is complete," the IAF said in a statement.

The BrahMos missile is a medium-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile capable of being launched from submarines, ships, fighter jets or land.
