New Delhi: India on Saturday registered the highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases with 22771, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 6,48,315. With this, India now stands at number four in the list of worst COVID hit nations after the US, Brazil and Russia, according to John Hopkins University.
With 2,794,321 COVID cases, the US stands at number one followed by Brazil at 1,539,081 and Russia 666,941. With 295,599 cases the UK stands at number 5 in the world figure of Covid19 cases, said that a survey conducted by John Hopkins University. If cases in India rise in such a huge number, it will cross Russia in the next few days.
With 442 deaths reported in last 24 hours, the total death tally in India touched to 18,665, Union Health Ministry has said. Ironically, this is the second consecutive day when India registered more than 20,000 of COVID cases in one single day.
India also registered the recovery rate of 60.80 per cent with a total number of 3,94,226 people already cured of the infectious disease. There are still 2,35,433 active cases. It may be mentioned here that in the last four days India witnessed a surge of 4,57,780 Covid19 cases with states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh witnessing a huge surge of positive cases. Health Ministry officials said that more than 70 per cent of deaths took place due to co-morbidities.
Maharastra is still leading the list of states with the highest number of COVID-19 case. The state registered 1,92,990 COVID cases followed by Tamil Nadu with 1,02,721 and Delhi with 94,695 COVID 19 cases. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, however, said that 95,40,132 sample have been tested till date with 2,42,383 samples tested in last 24 hours.
