His mortal remains will be sent to his ancestral village of Bindipara where his funeral will be held with full state and military honours.

On Tuesday, initial reports suggested that three Indian soldiers - one Commanding Officer and two jawans - were killed in the standoff with Chinese troops in Ladakh's Galwan Valley. Later, however, the Indian Army confirmed that at least 20 Indian Army jawans lost their lives in the same clash.

The incident follows rising tensions, and is the first deadly clash in the border area since 1975.
