India census 2021 will begin from hilly region: Govt

The NPR process under the 2021 census would begin from September 2020. The process would start from the hilly region of the country.

New Delhi: The government would start the National Population Register (NPR) process under 2021 census from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The mammoth process would begin on September 2020.

Government officials on Friday announced that all the hilly states across India will be given first priority for compiling census report.

"Census report in J&K would be followed by Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh," an official said.

The Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner of India would conduct the process. Significantly, this huge exercise would be digitised this time.

The census would be conducted in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh in October. In February, census of other states and Union Territories would take place.

Officials said that the census 2021 will be conducted through a different process such as NPR, Households, House listing and linguistic.

All this will be done through mobile-based App 'Census 2021-NPR'.

The official said that the entire exercise would cost around 12,000 crores.

The 2021 census would conclude on the midnight of March 1 and a revisional round would be conducted between March 1, 2021, and March 5, 2021.

"The entire revision process would emphasis to include all those who got excluded in the survey," the official said.
