New Delhi:For the first time, a female officer has been appointed as Inspector General of Central Reserve Police Force in Srinagar sector in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
Charu Sinha is an IPS officer of the 1996-batch Telangana cadre who had served as Inspector General in Bihar sector where Naxalite rebels operate.
Under her leadership, various anti-Naxals operations were carried out before she was transferred to Jammu as Inspector General with the CRPF where she had a long tenure.
Current Director-General CRPF AP Maheshwari headed the Srinagar sector as IG in 2005.
The sector never had a female officer at the IG level and works closely with the Indian army and the police in anti-insurgency operations.

"Srinagar sector is located at Brein Nishat, Srinagar (J-K). It started functioning in 2005. Srinagar sector has operational jurisdiction over three districts of Jammu and Kashmir - Budgam, Ganderbal, and Srinagar and the Union Territory of Ladakh," the CRPF said.
