2. Jammu-Srinagar highway to remain closed today

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway will remain closed on Friday due to landslides and shooting stones triggered by snow and incessant rains, officials said on Thursday. The Jammu-Srinagar highway is the main road link connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country. The road has been closed for the last four days due to heavy snowfall and landslides and shooting stones triggered by wet weather along the highway at many places. Snow has accumulated near the Jawahar Tunnel rendering the road slippery at many places.

3. Another nationwide vaccine dry-run today

As the country gears up for the mass vaccination drive in a few days, another nationwide dry-run will be held at various session sites of 736 districts across 33 states and union territories, including the national capital today. Its objective is to simulate the actual vaccine administration event. The Centre had recently said that vaccines drive will be rolled out by January 13.

4. Govt and farmers' unions decide to meet for next round of talks today

The eighth round of talks between protesting farmer unions and three central ministers failed to reach a breakthrough in the over-a-month-long deadlock on recent farm laws. The next meeting between the Centre and the farmers is scheduled to take place on Friday at 2 pm.
