As the nation marks the 12th anniversary of the ghastly 26/11 attacks, the Mumbai police are organizing an event to pay homage to the martyred security personnel. Meanwhile, the All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) will hold a one-day nationwide strike today. The strike has been called by central trade unions to protest against the government's 'anti-labour' policies. Here is a low down of the important national events to look for today.

  • Mumbai police set to mark 12th anniversary of 26/11 attacks
    12th anniversary of 26/11 attacks

The 12th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks will be observed today, with the Mumbai police organising an event to pay homage to the martyred security personnel.

The event will be attended by only a limited number of people in view of the pandemic, an official said.

The ceremony will be held at the newly-built memorial at the police headquarters in South Mumbai. It will be attended by the family members of the martyred police and security personnel, the official said.

The Tamil Nadu government has announced a public holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, in 16 districts considering the impact of cyclone Nivar.

A notification issued by Chief Secretary K. Shanmugam declared a public holiday for Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Tiruvannamalai, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Tirupathur, Vellore, Ranipet and Nagapattinam (including Mayiladuthurai) districts.

    Bank employees union call for one-day strike

The All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) will be joining the one-day nationwide strike today. The strike has been called by central trade unions to protest against the government's anti-labour policies.

Ten central trade unions, except Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, will observe the nationwide general strike today.

  • Delhi metro services to be affected amid call for farmers' protest

The services of Delhi Metro will be affected today due to the farmers' movement. Farmer organisations from different parts of the country including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab have called for 'Dilli Chalo' march today against the new farm laws.

Hence, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has issued an advisory as a precautionary measure. According to the DMRC, the Delhi Metro services will be disrupted at some selected station across all its lines till 2 PM.

  • IMD issues Yellow alert amid heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh
    Heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh

Several high reaches of Himachal Pradesh received fresh snowfall on Wednesday, the meteorological department said. Since it is expected to continue in the next 24 hours, the met office has issued a yellow alert for today.

Extreme cold is forcing residents to stay indoors for the most part. At -2.7 degrees Celsius, Keylong was the coldest place in Himachal, followed by Kalpa at -1.6 degrees Celsius.
