New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in Coastal Karnataka, on Tuesday, predicting heavy rainfall at isolated places across the state till August 8.
"The low-pressure area over north Bay of Bengal now lies off West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts with associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to become more marked in the next 24 hours," stated the IMD forecast.
IMD issues red alert for Coastal Karnataka IMD has issued a red alert for August 4, in all the districts of coastal Karnataka which is likely to witness heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places, after which there is an orange alert in the region.
While South Interior Karnataka where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at places including Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Shivamoga districts till Saturday. Parts of North interior Karnataka are also going to receive rainfall.

IMD has also predicted a very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the next 4-5 days.
Meanwhile, IMD had already issued a red alert for Mumbai and predicted very heavy rainfall with a thunderstorm in other regions of coastal Maharashtra and Goa as well.
"A cyclonic circulation lies over south Gujarat and neighbourhood at middle and upper troposphere levels tilting southwards with height. As a consequence of this, southwesterly monsoon flow has strengthened over the Arabian sea with southwesterly/westerly winds of speed reaching 50-60 kmph along and off Konkan coast at the surface and lower tropospheric levels," said IMD.
Therefore, the scattered heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely to continue over Konkan and Goa till August 6 and over Ghat areas of Maharashtra till August 5 and reduce thereafter.
Monsoon is currently active to vigorous phase over Konkan coast and adjoining areas of West Coast, Eastern parts of India covering Odisha and West Bengal. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Gujarat from 4th to 6th of August, over Odisha on August 4 and over Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh on August 5.
