New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a multi-hazard warning, on Saturday, predicting heavy rainfall in the eastern and north-eastern states of India in the next two days.

"Isolated extremely heavy rainfalls very lightly over Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and East Uttar Pradesh on 11th and 12th July.

While Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh will witness rains on 11th of July. The intensity of rainfall over these regions is likely to reduce gradually thereafter," informed IMD in a statement.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfalls also likely to occur over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Uttrakhand, West Uttar Pradesh and northern parts of Punjab and Haryana in the next two days.

It is due to the positioning of monsoon trough over the foothills of Himalayas. Also, the convergence of Southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal in the lower levels is very likely to continue over the Northeast and east India, during the next two days.

As Monsoon has reached almost all parts of the country, the national capital has still not seen much of rain activity in the past few days. While the western states have witnessed heavy rainfall last week which had badly affected the daily lives of people living in those regions.

Subdued rain activity has been predicted for Central India and remaining parts of North India, while peninsular Indian might receive isolated to scattered rain. Normal rainfall has been predicted in Delhi during the monsoon season.

However, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Jharkhand are going to witness moderate to severe thunderstorm and lightning in the next 24 hours, as per the prediction of IMD.

The eastern part of the Monsoon trough is going to shift southwards from July 13, leading to a revival of active monsoon conditions over West, Central and Northern Plains of the country during 14th to 16th July.
