Ambala: An Indian Air Force(IAF) pilot jettisoned fuel tanks of the Jaguar fighter jet following an engine failure. The mid-air Fuel-dumping operation was carried out in a residential area in Haryana.
No casualties were reported from the vicinity. The pilot managed to land back safely at the Ambala airbase in Haryana, the IAF said.
According to reports, one of the engines in the aircraft developed a snag following a bird strike.
According to officials, the IAF pilot managed to jettison the fuel tanks, a task performed to allow him to reduce the weight which could cause structural damage during the emergency landing.
Besides, small practice bombs were also thrown out during the emergency procedure and have been recovered near the air base region.
