Himachal's Mandi bags top position for implementation of PMGSY

Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district has brought laurels to the state by securing a top position among 30 districts of the country in the successful implementation of PMGSY. CM Jai Ram Thakur has asked the public works engineers to maintain the same momentum in coming time so that the state achieves another milestone.

Mandi: Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district has bagged top position among 30 districts of the country in the successful implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has congratulated the Public Works Department for their job which helped Mandi secure top position.

He said, "Public Works Department should be praised for this because the state has achieved this feat by doing excellent work under PMGSY despite adverse circumstances like a pandemic and bad weather. The Union Ministry of Rural Development on Thursday released the list of 30 districts under PMGSY for the year 2020-21.

Himachal Pradesh has also secured the second position at the national level for construction of roads under PMGSY. PMGSY is a Central government-funded scheme to provide connectivity to habitations having a population of more than 250 in the state.

Union Ministry of Rural Development has declared the list of top-performing 30 districts in the country for implementing the PMGSY programme.

Thakur has expressed hope that the department will try to maintain progress in this work in the coming time. He assured that all possible cooperation will be given by the government in completing all the works on time.

Mandi district has received top position for constructing roads under PMGSY of maximum length in 2020-21. Six more districts of Himachal Pradesh have also secured a position among top 30 best performing districts, which include Chamba, Shimla, Kangra, Una, Sirmour, Hamirpur and Solan.

The state has also improved its performance under PMGSY programme by constructing 1104 Kilometres roads this year from April till date.

PMGSY is a programme funded by the Union government to connect habitations having a population of more than 250 in the state.

It may be recalled that due to the COVID-19 severely impacted the labour and machinery department and construction work was halted. After the intervention of the state government, the required resources were brought back and construction work was resumed. The CM has asked the public works engineers to maintain the same momentum in coming time so that the state achieves another milestone.
