Lucknow: In the wake of the tragedy which took place in Hathras district, the entire Uttar Pradesh remained tense on Thursday. On the one hand, senior police officer Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Law and Order, Prashant Kumar came out with a clarification on the heinous incident, while the political atmosphere remained hot. Talking about Hathras incident, Uttar Pradesh ADG, Law and Order, Prashant Kumar said that the Dalit girl died of neck injuries. He said that as per the forensic report, there was no evidence of any sperm in her body. He said that local journalists have shared a video in which the victim has even shown her tongue. The video is proving the claim of chopping off the victim’s tongue by the accused was proven wrong.
However, there are not many takers of the police version. In fact, the police of Uttar Pradesh and the BJP government are on a sticky wicket with regard to what happened in Hathras. One can gauge the kind of pressure which has been mounted on the department that a senior police officer has to give a clarification. ADG Prashant Kumar also tried to save the police on the issue of the cremation of the victim, by giving a clarification. He said that the cremation of the victim was carried out with the permission of the victim's family. However, the family has claimed that the police forcibly cremated her without taking their consent.
The SIT, which has been formed by the state government to probe into the matter, reached the village in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. When asked about the investigation by the SIT, SP Vikrant Veer said that the police are doing their own work and the SIT is also doing its assigned job. Even on Wednesday, the SIT had visited the village and had questioned many people. The SIT is also carrying out the spot investigation in the village.
On the other hand, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were stopped on the Noida Expressway while they were on their way to Hathras. There was a sharp furore between the police and the Congressmen. During the scuffle with the police, former Congress national president Rahul Gandhi even fell down after which the police had to lathi-charge to control the Congress workers.
