New Delhi:Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) National Spokesperson Rakesh Tikait on Friday said that the fact that political parties are including farmer issues in their manifestos was a good sign.
Tikait said the farmer movement must continue In an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat, Tikat said that farmer issues have gained prominence in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.
"Good that the Congress took our suggestions and included farmer issues in their manifesto, but they now have to fulfil their promises as well," Tikat said.
"The Prime Minister now talks about farmers at every rally, it is heartening to see that," he added.
Talking about the PM Kisan Yojana, Tikait said that he has interacted with several farmers from Uttar Pradesh, and the general consensus among the farming community is that the scheme is helpful, especially to the poorest lot.
Tikait also opined that the Congress' proposed NYAY scheme will be immensely helpful to the small farmers, who also come under the beneficiary category.
He further said that for the welfare of farmers, the farmer movement must always be at the forefront. "Political parties cannot do much for us. For our issues to be heard, the movement must perpetually stay alive," he said.
