Govt should bring policy to protect indigenous people, says ABSU

Raising voice against the illegal infiltrators, All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) on Friday has appealed the Centre to bring a policy to protect indigenous people of the region.

New Delhi: A day before the publication of final National Register of Citizen (NRC) in Assam, the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) on Friday has appealed the Centre to bring a policy to protect indigenous people of the region.

"It's a well know fact that illegal influx has created a major problem not only in Assam but in entire northeastern states, the illegal foreigners have already captured our lands, properties act, " said Pramod Boro, president of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU).

He said that illegal immigrants could be anywhere. "But we want to live in peace. We want that there should be difference between illegal immigrants and the indigenous people," said Bodo.

Under the observation of the Supreme Court, Government is publishing the final NRC on Saturday. Boro said that the Government should bring a policy so that a similar situation does not arise again.

On several occasions, Bodos living in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area of Assam, have also raised their voice against the illegal infiltrators.

In fact, districts under BTC on earlier occasion has witnessed violence between Bodos and so-called illegal foreigners.
