Govt reviews situation J&K, restrictions on movement remain

Govt decides not to remove restrictions imposed on people's movement post modification of article 370. Supreme Court refuses to intervene, saying it should be done keeping in mind safety and security of the nation.

New Delhi: The BJP-led NDA government on Monday reviewed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and decided not to lift restrictions fully that were imposed in the newly constituted union territory after the modification of Article 370 that gave special status to the region.

A high-level meeting, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, took stock of the ground situation there and decided against removing all restrictions.

The meeting at the North Block office of the minister was attended by National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauva and other senior officials from the IB, the BSF and the CRPF, official sources told ETV Bharat here.

None of the officials, who attended the almost two-hour-long meeting, interacted with the media.

"The restrictions are expected to be in place till October 31, when both Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh become Union Territories," they said.

The NSA also believed to have briefed the government about the steps taken to stop any infiltration from Pakistan-based militants.
In Jammu and Kashmir, restrictions were imposed on people's movement in a bid to avert any possible violence post modification of Article 370.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court had also said that it will not pass any order on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, adding that normalcy should be restored keeping in mind the national security.
