Yes, the number of the great Indian Bustard, which joins the line of giant birds, is estimated at about 130 in the entire country. So the government created a habitat and breeding program for 21 endangered birds last year. Under this scheme, the State Forest Department is implementing a great Indian bustard bird conservation project at Siruguppa taluk at a cost of Rs 1.7 crore.
The birds are believed to have migrated elsewhere from Bellary district due to illegal mining a decade ago. These birds have been declared as endangered and the endangered birds are being taken into conservation. A recent survey found 8 bustard birds in Siruguppa taluk. But Some believe that there is no proper protection for these endangered species here.
