New Delhi: In a move towards achieving normalcy in flying, the government today removed all restrictions around check-in baggage. The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Thursday removed all restrictions around check-in baggage and said that the baggage limitation would be as per the airline's policy.

"Baggage limitations will be as per the airlines' policies," the office memorandum undersigned by Usha Padhee, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation stated.

The matter with regard to check-in baggage has been reviewed based on the feedback/inputs received from concerned stakeholders. Considering the convenience of the passengers, it has been decided to amend the existing provisions in this regard, the order stated.

After the revised flying norms, there will be no restrictions on check-in baggage and passengers can carry as per the airline's policy.

According to the aviation regulator DGCA rules, domestic airlines in the country allow 15 kilograms of free check-in baggage on flights and if the load exceeds, the passengers have to pay extra money for it.

India resumed domestic passenger flights on May 25 after a gap of two months amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Since September first week, domestic airlines are allowed to operate at 60 per cent of their pre-COVID capacity. Before that, the government had allowed domestic airlines to operate at 45 per cent capacity only.
