New Delhi:Months after the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) launched its 'Rozgaar Do' campaign, raising concerns pertaining to the rise in unemployment, the second phase of the campaign was kicked off on Saturday.
Launching the campaign, IYC Joint Secretary Krishna Allavaru said, "The growth rate of GDP has fallen by 40 per cent. It was already crawling due to the unplanned imposition of lockdown, but now it has reached the ventilator. But instead of accepting their mistakes, the Modi government has called the apocalypse of economy as an 'Act of God'."
"When Prime Minister announced demonetization on November 2016, a lot of jobs got destroyed. Due to GST, a number of MSMEs got affected. This is wrong. You can't blame God for your own failures," he added.
The statement came after Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in a GST council meeting that the economy has been hit by the pandemic, which is an "Act of God", and it might see a contraction in the current fiscal.
"The state of economy was already frightening even before Covid-19, as the unemployment rate had broken a record of past 45 years. Now, as per the latest report, 13.50 crore people lost their jobs during the pandemic," Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said during a press conference.
